Chilean Summer

Hola! ¿Qué Onda?

I’ve been meaning to send a blog out for months, I guess we’ve been busy enjoying the Chilean summer that is approaching its end this month (March).. The past four months have been wonderful, productive and full of love watching Rena grow. We’ve been working hard, enjoying summer parties and asados (BBQs), hosting our families and friends and celebrating holidays. I hope you enjoy this catch up with us!

Little Rena has gone from not being able to crawl in November to almost walking in March. She’s started eating with us and sorta saying words like Og (Dog). She’s been a trooper about wearing her eye patch to help her strabismus, but hopefully a solution is near.  In April we decided that we are going to do corrective surgery to help her alignment.

This summer was full of visits from family. We live in a special place and it is a joy share our lives and explore with guests and family. Jenine’s mom actually came twice: in November for Thanksgiving and then in February with Jenine’s dad. My parents visited us over Christmas and New Years. Tim and Erika, friends from San Francisco, stopped by too in January.

This summer has also been a busy one for projects. We’ve done a lot of landscaping around our house and we launched a little real estate project with Martin/Joy. Late last year we bought 6 undeveloped properties that we’ve worked this summer to develop and resell. That includes adding roads, water, landscaping and fencing. The properties look amazing now, and we’ve sold one and have offers pending on others. Feels nice to say we are actually earning a little bit of a living here after one year of trying to figure out a plan.

We almost bought a big piece of land that would have been a major project for us, but alas the deal collapsed at the last hour. Literally, two hours before the deal signing while I was on my way to the meeting with a huge down payment check in my hand….. I had worked so so hard over the past 2 months to get all the information and crazy paperwork figured out, and was so excited, but it just wasn’t meant to be. We’ve got our eyes open for new projects and I have assembled a good team work, but for now, all my attention is on a house project we are starting with Martin and Joy. The plan is to build a house together ourselves and sell it next summer. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes!

Now for some fun…. Surfing and Kitesurfing are my passions here. I’ve keep track of every surf session since the past 3.5 years, and lately I’m starting to see some progress I am happy with. It really helps that I have some amazing kite and surfing buddies here to push me.

Finally, I leave you with some summer parties and our first date night out to Arcade Fire in Santiago!

And many many more photos and videos for you to enjoy – click here to view the whole album.
